Web of Science due to launch platform redesign and form a partnership Google Scholar

Thomson Reuters’ Web of Knowledge have announced a new partnership between their services and Google Scholar. When Google Scholar users hit the Scholar search results page, they see a new direct Web of Science link in the results. On Web of Science, subscribers can move directly from a Web of Science record to a Google Scholar search on the same item.

The program is designed to work in conjunction with Google’s Library Links, article-level links to subscription full text for patrons affiliated with a participating library. The new reciprocal linking functionality will roll out to Web of Science academic customers over the next two to three months with the goal of January 2014 completion.

Web of Science are also changing their platform design with the aim of providing a better research tool.  It will all be branded under the banner of Web of Science. There will be no changes to the search engine, search logic or to the underlying data.  No proxy server updates will be required.  Full release of the new look platform is scheduled for launch in early 2014.
