New look library Science & Computing subject portal - try it out


  • The Science & Computing subject portal has a new responsive design – it should resize to match the size of your screen irrespective of which device you are using. (IPhone, Galaxy s4, tablet pc, laptop, desktop etc.)

The new library web site brings the look of the library’s online services in line with the main institute web site. All the library’s web pages have been updated.
The library recommends using the most up to date browser that you can to access the web site:

  • Firefox > Version 28

Contest for postgraduate students - submission date 16th April 2014



Post-graduate students are invited to submit proposals for this year's student contest at the TERENA Networking Conference (TNC2014), which is sponsored by Cisco Systems and Internet Society. Submissions should be made in PDF format no later than 16 April 2014.

Ten posters will be selected for presentation at TNC2014 with one author from each selected submission able to attend TNC2014 free of charge and potentially receiving financial support for travel. The best of these ten will go through for presentation as a lightning talk. The sponsors will award an additional prize to the author whose poster and talk are voted the best by TNC2014 attendees.

2014 - International Year of Crystallography - IYCR2014


The International Year of Crystallography was officially launched this week at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.

The year-long celebration aims to strengthen international collaboration and increase public awareness of crystallography with a series of conferences, exhibitions and educational activities taking place throughout 2014.

New Web of Science - webinar training for researchers




The new Web of Science interface is now live. 

It provides a simpler look with more intuitive searching.

You are invited to register for a training webinar.  Learn how to navigate this new search and discovery environment — now branded under the Web of Science banner — and to hear more about the indices that now comprise the Web of Science Core Collection. 

The webinar will also demonstrate the: 
  • Updated user interface: Clear identification of the database searched with an easier-to-get- started search tool and simplified navigation. 
  • Improved page layout and readability of search results: Easier links to full-text. 
  • New layout of full record data elements for easier readability: Improved organization of links to related research.
